That’s why Seniors At Home is pleased to announce that we have partnered with popular ride sharing service lyft to provide safe rides for seniors and their caregivers anytime they need it.
For most lyft users rides are arranged by using the lyft “app” on a personal smartphone—but according to Pew Research more than half of U.S. older adults do not own this type of digital device. Through our partnership, Seniors At Home will now arrange lyft for seniors without smartphone or for those who prefer ordering their car by phone call. This service is available for home care clients and can be scheduled ahead of time or arranged on an as-needed basis.
The partnership is also designed to benefit Seniors At Home caregivers; lyft rides will be provided for caregivers who are unable to drive to a client’s home—particularly if they are needed urgently or on short notice.
Like Seniors At Home, lyft is dedicated to the safety of everyone in our community, including providing safe rides for seniors. In order to make sure lyft rides are safe and reliable, drivers are hand-selected and screened through comprehensive background checks and in-person interviews.
Access to reliable transportation is particularly important for older adults, as those who have given up their car keys and don’t have easy access to reliable public transportation face an almost doubled risk of depression due to the lack of independence and increased risk of social isolation.
