Memory Cafe in San Francisco — 11/18/2025

Join us to see Contested Histories: Preserving and Sharing a Community Collection, a special traveling exhibit from the Japanese American National Museum (JANM) on display at the Military Intelligence Service Historic Learning Center in The Presidio. This exhibition presents a collection of some 400 items made by Japanese American incarcerees during World War II, and has sparked national protest, action, and debate.

Caring for a loved one with memory loss doesn’t have to be a lonely job. Memory Cafe is a gathering for people experiencing mild to moderate memory loss and their caregivers (spouses, family members, or friends). Enjoy time with your loved one and meet others who are dealing with similar issues in a supportive and welcoming environment.

About this outing: During World War II, Japanese Americans incarcerated in America’s concentration camps demonstrated their resilience, ingenuity, and creativity, from crafting necessities like furniture and tools to creating works of art. In 2015, JANM was entrusted with the safekeeping of the Eaton Collection, an important collection of some 400 items made by Japanese American incarcerees. The exhibition, enhanced with new findings, is on tour at the National Japanese American Historical Society’s MIS Historic Learning Center in The Presidio, where many of the recently restored artworks are on view for the first time.

Memory Cafe meets in San Francisco at different locations. Participants must be accompanied by their caregiver.

This center is located at 640 Mason Street in Chrissy Field, Building 640, which is in The Presidio. It is not on Mason Street in downtown San Francisco.
