DESCRIPTION:Join us at Ruth’s Table Curious Minds program for a live performance by artist Sha Sha Higby featuring her original eye-popping costume pieces! Enjoy time with your loved one and meet others who are dealing with similar issues in a supportive and welcoming environment. \nAbout this event: Sha Sha Higby is one of San Francisco International Arts Festival’s featured artists. She pursued the art of puppetry and sculpture\, then spent a year in Japan studying the art of Noh Mask and theater\, followed by a Fulbright-Hayes Scholarship to study dance and shadow puppet making in the villages of Indonesia for five years at the Academy of Music and Dance\, lacquer arts in Tokyo and Kyoto under the Japan-United States Friendship Commission\, an Indo-American Fellowship to study the textile arts of India\, and a Pilot Travel Grants Fund from Arts International for Bhutan. \nSan Francisco Memory Cafe meets on many Tuesdays at different locations. SUMMARY:Memory Cafe in San Francisco -- 1/13/2025
DESCRIPTION:Please join us for a special Monday gathering — a docent-led tour of a special exhibition of work by Tamara de Lempicka at the de Young museum. \nCaring for a loved one with memory loss doesn’t have to be a lonely job. Memory Cafe is a gathering for people experiencing mild to moderate memory loss and their caregivers (spouses\, family members\, or friends). Enjoy time with your loved one and meet others who are dealing with similar issues in a supportive and welcoming environment. \nAbout this outing: Tamara de Lempicka is a Polish painter known for her Art Deco portraits. As the de Young museum describes this exhibition: “With works that exuded cool elegance and transgressive sensuality\, Tamara de Lempicka (1894–1980) helped define Art Deco. Her paintings captured the glamour and vitality of postwar Paris and the cosmopolitan sheen of Hollywood celebrity. This exhibition — the first major museum retrospective of Lempicka in the United States — explores the artist’s distinctive style and unconventional life through four major chapters.” \nMemory Cafe meets in San Francisco at different locations. Participants must be accompanied by their caregiver. \nRSVP required by January 7 for this special event. RSVP to Amy Takemoto by emailing her at: MemoryCafe@jfcs.org. \nNote the main entrance to the de Young museum will be closed this day. Use the Education entrance on the side or the Garage entrance. Disability placard parking spaces will be available in front of the building and will be marked. The pay garage will be open and you may enter on 10th Avenue and Fulton Avenue.
